چکیده

In this paper we show that despite a past claim goals such as ‘try your best to make p true’ in presence of non-deterministic actions can be expressed in the framework of branching time temporal logic. We analyze the A and E operators in CTL∗ and point out why it was thought that the above mentioned goal can not be expressed using CTL∗. We then introduce the operators Aπ and Eπ (and present a temporal logic π-CTL∗) which take into account the policy being followed by the agent and show that using these operators we can indeed specify the above mentioned goal.

Goal Specification in Presence of Non-Deterministic Actions

One important aspect in directing cognitive robots or agents is to formally specify what is expected of them. This is often referred to as goal specification. For agents whose actions have deterministic consequences various goal specification languages have been proposed. The situation is different, and less studied, when the actions may have non-deterministic consequences. For example, a simpl...

Goal Specification, Non-Determinism and Quantifying over Policies

One important aspect in directing cognitive robots or agents is to formally specify what is expected of them. This is often referred to as goal specification. Temporal logics such as LTL, and CTL∗ have been used to specify goals of cognitive robots and agents when their actions have deterministic consequences. It has been suggested that in domains where actions have non-deterministic effects, t...

Deductive Planning and Composite Actions in Temporal Action Logic

Temporal Action Logic is a well established logical formalism for reasoning about action and change that has long been used as a formal specification language. Its first-order characterization and explicit time representation makes it a suitable target for automated theorem proving and the application of temporal constraint solvers. We introduce a translation from a subset of Temporal Action Lo...

Non-Deterministic Planning with Temporally Extended Goals: Completing the Story for Finite and Infinite LTL (Amended Version)

Temporally extended goals are critical to the specification of a diversity of real-world planning problems. Here we examine the problem of planning with temporally extended goals over both finite and infinite traces where actions can be nondeterministic, and where temporally extended goals are specified in linear temporal logic (LTL). Unlike existing LTL planners, we place no restrictions on ou...
